The Polish-Soviet Relations from the Beginnings of the Second World War until the end of the 1940s

The bachelor thesis deals with the development of Polish-Soviet relations during and after the Second World War. It focuses on the key events and explores how they influenced the mutual relationship between Poland and the Soviet Union. In the first chapter, attention is devoted to the Nazi-Soviet Pact and its role in the dismemberment of Poland, the Sovietization of the annexed Polish provinces and the Katyn crime. Further on, the circumstances of the signing of the Sikorski-Mayski Agreement, the fate of the Polish army in the USSR and the causes of the break in diplomatic relations between the Polish Government-in-Exile and the Soviet Union are examined. The last two chapters explain the Soviet stance vis-à-vis the Warsaw Uprising, clarify the role the Polish question played in the deliberations of the conferences of the Big Three and give an outline of post-war development.
